Ok well, I'm 16 years old and I've never really tanned before. I've gotten tans naturally in the summer just from being outside, but I've never actually layed out and TRIED to tan. Now I am. I really need a tan, I am SHEET WHITE. What kind of lotion should I use? I'm a little confused between sunblock and sunscreen, and what level of SPF I should use. I dont want to use anything too high since i really want a tan! Thanks for the help.

Also. Please don't tell me to use tanning lotion or spray tan, I have gotten professional spray tans and use every tanning lotion I can think of...and it's disgusting and fake. It doesn't give your skin that natural glow and it doesn't clear up pimples on shoulders, etc. It makes my flaws look worse. Ugh! HATE IT!

Another reason why I actually NEED to tan is because I have SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder...and the only thing that helps make me feel better is light from the sun, as actual light therapy from a doctor can make you go blind. It cures my depression almost instantly!

i would try one of the lotions specifically formulated for tanning bed use, as they are actually much better than the mass-market lotions u buy at walmart or wherever...probably one with an accelerator would work best, as it stimulates your melanin to increase your tanning potential...but as u are fair, i would start out gradually, maybe just tanning for 20 min the 1st time & gradually increasing a little as u go so u don`t burn...after u get a base tan, u can switch to one of the tingle lotions to really fire up your color (but only if u don`t have sensitive skin, as these are very powerful!!!)...
