Tell your mom that you're interested in ballet, you grew up and changed your mind about it.
Yeah, it's better to start when you're younger, but at 15 is OK too. You'd be surprised to learn how many people start at your age. Kids are actually pretty cool with beginner adults - you'll be surprised. I started ballroom as an adult, older than you are now, and I never heard a bad word from a child, neither I caught a bad look from them. Don't worry about it.

If you are interested, you should try ballet! Don't worry about looking silly in front of more experienced dancers because you can find a class at your level with other girls your age. Believe it or not, a lot of girls become interested in ballet in their teens. The beginning teen ballet class is one of the biggest classes I teach! You will all be in it together. Never mind if your friends tell you to take hip hop... You will regret it later in life and you won't have fun if you don't try to do something you're interested in. Good luck!

Ballet is real dance. Perhaps you are mature enough now to want to really challenge yourself. In your life you will encounter many obstacles, reasons "not to do things." Learning to push past life's obstacles is perhaps a greater skill than ballet itself.
