My daughter wets the bed everynight and it is so hard to get the urine smell out of her clothes and sheets. I have used vinegar in the wash but it doesn't seem to help. She is to old for diapers or overnights now so we just have to deal. HELP!!!

She is 11 and refuses to use a diaper. We've been to a doctor to resolve the bed wetting but it is an on going prob. I do use Tide.

I already know this is going to sound real strange. But I use shampoo in the wash with the regular amount of laundry detergent, for really smelly, or soiled clothes. I really recomend it, before you spend a lot of money on the fancy chemicals. It doesn't take much, maybe two to three table spoons. You can also add white vinegar to the load, it helps with the smell as well.

Sometimes I will add a little less shampoo and a little vinegar to the load to help make the shampoo stretch longer. (I have four children under the age of 8, and three of them still mess their clothes and wet the bed, so I go through a bunch of shampoo in the loads of laundry.)

I don't personally use bleach - unless there is a mildew stain.

Also, another tip... if you don't want the load to smell "flowery" or perfumed you could go with baby shampoo. Personally I use the baby shampoo with the lavender scent. Makes me calm when I smell it fresh from the dryer.

My dog has wet the bed and sometimes peed on clothes. However, we just washed the sheets or clothes normally on the heavy cycle with All free and Clear or Arm & Hammer Free and Clear. Then we used the dryer and used perfume free dryer sheets and have NEVER been able to detect the urine smell afterward. Using more detergent per load of wash will probably help. Maybe try OxyClean detergent and or bleach in the wash.

BTW, I am no expert on bed wetting in kids who are potty trained but I have heard that it can actually the result of psychological fears and the only way to really stop it is to get counseling for your daughter. In other cases it is because of urinary tract infections or bladder problems that can be easily treated with a prescription that you take for a week or so.

Have you tried Pinesol with the laundry detergent with an extra rinse? Try buying one of those rubber sheets. It zips up over the mattress. The mattress won't smell like urine. The clothes and linen will just have to be washed good. You may also have to go through the room and wash the floor and any other clothes in the room. Most bedwetters will hide the clothes so no one knows that they had an accident overnight.

You can pretreat the sheets and clothes. Pour the detergent directly on the affected areas and rub vigorously. Let it sit for a few minutes. Then you can partly fill your washer up with water and put about 2 capfuls of bleach directly into the water. Mix the water and bleach thoroughly, add your detergent to the washer, then add the soiled sheets and clothing. If you have fabric softner, add that as well. The bleach will help kill the remaining scent of urine, the detergent will wash and add a fragrance, the fabric softner will add additional fragrance.

You can also see a doctor. Your daughter can have an infection. There are treatments for that.

Add baking soda to the wash water, that should help..Also, the urine may have seaped into the mattress, so you might want a pad to protect that as well and wash sheets in hot water

Bleach is the only thing that will work but not a good soltution for colorful fabrics. They make overnite pull-ups for kids up to age 10 and after that, there are adult diapers too. Talk to your child's doctor about long term solutions but why not just use the diapers in the meantime. No one has to know about them and it will save you money on buying new clothes and sheets.

Try borax in the wash, add some baking soda...it will do wonders.

I use it on my work scrubs.

I tend to come home with urine on me from animals ( along with a lot of other gross things) and it works for me.

Try adding a cup of ammonia to the washer. Here's a little home remedy, Give your daughter a teaspoon of honey before bed. I don't know why this works, but it has.
