I tnink it's a creature that has to be a parasite--it can't survive without a host. Obligate is related to words such as obligated (forced) and obligatory (required).

But virus and parasite are different organism
may be they are same in Obligate mechanism.
Virus is virus e.g hepatitis or HIV
Parasite is like malaria Amoeba.
