Trust me you don't want one if there is a chance you can have your baby vaginally. My c- section was absolutely the most pain I have ever had in my life. It takes up to 4 months to start to feel normal again, and the first few weeks you will be in so much pain you won't be able to take care of your baby as well as if you have a vaginal birth.
I had 18 hours of labor with my son and pushed for 3 hours until they realized he was too big to come naturally and I had to have a c-section. I'm ttc again now and when I have another baby it will be vaginally, I will take the risk of uterine rupture to avoid another c-section.
Check out my other question too about others opinions between the two, I am not alone:

First of all, why would you want to have a c-section? The recovery time is longer and it is WAYYYY more painful than to deliver normally (so I've been told). There is more scarring in your uterus for sure! Is it just because you want to "PLAN" your child's birth? Dumb reason. Seriously. I have had 2 c-sections. The first was not elective, the second was because I was over due by 1 1/2 weeks. Now, what gals don't think about is how a c-section affects the mother... let's think about this for a moment:
1. after the c-section they make you stand up and walk around... it's more painful than labor pains. And it's just a matter of HOURS after your surgery. They don't let you just lay around because you hurt.
2. Not only do you have to worry about bleeding "down there", you have to care for your incision.
3. Sneezing, coughing, laughing, walking, rolling over, laying on one side or the other too long, picking something up, ALL HURT WORSE than they would if you delivered normally.
4. your stomach muscles suffer greatly. It's been 3 1/2 years since my c-section and no matter how many sit ups, crunches, pilates dvd's I do I cannot get them back to the way they were.
5. It just plain sucks.
Is that enough reason for you to consider NOT having one if you don't have to????

An ethical doctor doctor will not schedule an elective C-section with no medical cause. It is major abdominal surgery. Maternal risk of death is 4 times greater than a vaginal delivery. Fetal death risk is also greater. Recovery time is longer as well. All that being said, you may have one of those doctors that loves to have everything on a set schedule and will section all his patients without cause. Sad. Best of luck.

They can be scheduled. Generally when it's a second birth after having a c-section the first time.

Yes you can schedule them, but if you have not had a C-Section before, I'd recommend having the baby vaginally. There are many long term issues that can arrise from having a C-Section, which most women are not aware of prior to having a C-Section.

I had to have a c-section with my firsy baby because he was almost 10 pounds and I was in labor for over 24 hours and he would not come out of me. I was told I could choose the next time and when the next time came around I decided to have another c-section because I did not want to go thru all that painful labor again!

Some doctors will perform and elective c-section and others won't. Honestly if you get an epidural VB is not bad. I understand why you might opt for a c-section BUT remember recovery time is MUCH longer than VB. I had VB and my friend had c-section and I was out and about in days and she was stuck in bed for more than a week. Either way...good luck with your deciscion!!!

If this is your first pregnancy I think there has to be a complication for a c-section, but I'm not sure. If you want to know for sure, check with your ob/gyn.
However, vaginal birth isn't as scary as a lot of people think, and c-sections take longer to recover from than vaginal birth.

Depends on the circumstances. Some places will do that if you've had a previous c-section. If you have a known complication, like placenta prevaria, then yes. But not just to make it easy on yourself, I don't believe so.

yes, you can schedule one but your Dr will have to tell you for sure.
sometimes if the due date is passed they will schedule
or if your pelvic bones are too small or something
that's why i had 2 c sections
my pelvic bones were too close together,so he recommended c section
however BOTH children were born earlier than expected one a couple weeks early and another a month and a half early
but the answer is yes, talk w/ your dr
