Is that bad? Are our kids going to have birth defects or something? What is the law about marrying cousins?

9th cousins are not your cousin in any legal or biologically significant way. In a sense, we are ALL related genetically. So it is probably not that big a deal.

9th cousins is meaningless. First cousins would be considered a problem and birth defects only happen after a few generations of brothers and sisters and first cousins mating.

Otherwise, there is nothing in the law that says 9th or even 2nd cousins cannot get married.

Take care,
Troy

You would be surprised of how many people in this world has married their ninth cousin! And some has married without any knowledge of it at all. But the kids turns out to be perfect. I think that when first cousins, second cousins, third cousins and even fourth cousins are marrying then that is when the bloodline is connecting a little to close, especially first and second. It could of been worse. You could have married a half sister unaware. Now that really would be something to scratch your head for!! The ninth cousin is related but the blood is thinning out there. When you really look at it.... We all are some kin. Good luck!

Legally you can marry your 2nd cousin..seems a little to close to me but its legal. Only first cousins is considered incest. 9th cousins are so far down the blood line, that theres probably little to no blood ties really left at that point depending on how the line went. But its not illegal, and your not going to have any birth defects.

Get over it. Everyone on the planet is related no more distantly than 50th cousins.

The only laws are against 1st cousins, and over half of the states in the USA allow 1st cousin marriage.

I don't think so. You're far enough apart. I'm not up on this kind of thing but I'd imagine you'd want to consult a doctor.
