For several reasons.

1. They think they would look dumb for not knowing the answer, and having to ask. They don't worry about how they look to strangers on the internet.

2. They have the fear that the pet store employs people who do not really know any more than they know, and that all the pet store people will do is try to sell them something.

3. The are afraid that, even if the people at the pet store do know what they are talking about, they won't want to give any information to someone who did not purchase the animal there.

4. They have the mistaken idea that if they call a vet for information, they will have to pay. They don't realise that they only have to pay if they take their animal to the vet.

5. They are lazy. It is easier to sit in their house and type on the computer than to call someone or go somewhere to get the info.

6. They are too young to go anywhere by themselves to get the information, and they don't know who to call.

I'm sure other people can add other reasons to this.
