There is no difference between a "liberal" and a "conservative" these days. They're both for big government and big spending, and both aisles are passing legislation that takes away our liberties and grants Bush and his organized minions more and more dictoral power over U.S. citizens. The two terms have confused the sheeple of America, thus leading them to believe they have to be either "liberal" or "conservative" to feel as if they're important in the arena of politics. That is hardly the case. The masses have been duped and sucked into this insidious ploy by the corporately owned media. Mainstream liberals and conservatives are both striving for the same goal, just under a different name. Do not be fooled.

Also, vote for Ron Paul in 2008. If you want to know what the true meaning of a conservative is, research him. Romney, McCain, Ghouliani and the rest of those scrubs don't even come close to Ron Paul in terms of what a "conservative" is.

A conservative is a person who wants to conserve the status quo. They basically don't want very much to change and want the government to stay out of their lives as much as possible, with some exceptions of course.

When I hear liberal I think progressive, as in a person who wants to continually improve the country rather than staying in a static state.

This is why conservatives call liberals unpatriotic. Conservatives think America is exactly how it should be, and anyone who wants to change it is criticizing the country and is therefore unpatriotic. Liberals/Progressives want to change the country in a good way to make it the best it can be, which is very patriotic, if you ask me.

I understand that the person using those terms is probably making generalizations about the people in one or the other of those groups.
