Not as a person but as a ballplayer I dont mind him. I want to see him break the home run record just to watch all the "guilty until proven innocent" people cry about it.

Hi Tiny.... I love Barry for many reasons. However, I do agree that his personal life has not been perfect, he is not the most diplomatic person around and he does seem to have a bit of mean streak in him. These factors give him a bad rep and that is why he has so many haters. However he is the best player of his generation and maybe the best we will ever see in our lifetime... with or without steroids. And to those who want to crucify him for that... I can't hold it against him because we have no idea how many pitchers he has hit against have used the same thing. Plus I love the fact that Barry is Barry. He is not a nice guy who only says what people want to hear. He is not a leader and does not try and be one... most great players make bad coaches and managers because being a leader means you have to focus on others as well as yourself. Barry focuses on being the best and he has achieved that.

Still, the single greatest reason I love Barry is that watching him hit a rocket into the sky and then see it land in the Cove is one of the coolest thing in sports.... it is simply majestic.

Barry Bonds is as normal as we are. He's no jerk and has no attitude problem.

The story that Barry Bonds is a jerk and has an attitude problem is just made up by disgruntled reporters because Barry did not want to grant 100% of the requested interviews. His anger is only due to reporters and their smear campaign against him. Also, the abrasive fans that are brainwashed into thinking he is a bad person rubs him wrong too. Steroids will turn you into a maniac that cannot control rage.

I met him many times at my place of employment during the "so-called" drugged up years. He was pleasant, willing to chat, sign autographs, non-judgmental, not big headed, respected all who approached him and was not a jerk. Even when I met him after he got his knee scoped, he shook people's hands, signed autographs and did not get impatient, even though he was in obvious pain.

I am not a hater and I will be cheering when he breaks the record. Yeah, I wish he would be more amiable to fans - come on, enjoy the pub and sign a few autographs - and - according to reports - disrespect at least two women in his life (and I have a real problem with that), but MLB shouldn't get bent that he is poised to be the home run king. Selig should be there, shake his hand and celebrate the day.

I don't know Bonds, therefore the question is meaningless to me.

I do like how he plays baseball -- devastatingly well. I cannot recall another batter who struck so much fear into the opposing team that they would change how they played the game during his plate appearances (and I'm not talking about just unusual defensive alignments; pitchers would nibble like never before). Maybe Rickey Henderson at his best had the same effect. And Bonds was having this effect before he became BONDS!!! He really has been that good.

Yes, no matter what he has ,or claims he hasn't, done to tarnish his image, he has been an all-star player for years and years now, I am now 36 years old and he was playing when I was a freshman in high school, at all-star level. He comes from good family stock, and is good to the underprivileged families and children in the Bay Area. Steroids or not, he still has to put the bat on the ball first...no steroids on Earth can make you swing better or key in your timing any better...none at all.

No. He has proven himself to be a world-class jerk over and over again... from his arrogance to cheating on his wife to the way he treats his teammates.
That's not to mention the 'roid thing. Has he been proven guilty? No. But any man who suddenly puts on 30 pounds of muscle in 3 months at the age of 36 without gaining any body fat is certainly in the realm of suspicion, particularly considering that the sport is now known to have a steriod abuse problem.
Another problem I have is the way he plays the game. He's always been a lazy player. He Randy Moss's it too much- plays hard when he wants to, runs out ground balls when he feels like it, etc. Baseball is not a game that looks kindly on such things. It loses you games over the course of the season. He also has historically performed worse in pressure situations overall than non-pressure. That spells "choker" to me. Also, what's with wearing more body armor than the marine corps? If he's that afraid of getting hit by a pitch, maybe he shouldn't make a practice of sitting right on the plate.
I will not be rooting for him, ever. In my eyes, he is a lazy, arrogant baseball player, has cheated to appease his ego, and has proven himself not to be a worthwhile human being off the field. None of those qualities make me want to celebrate anything he does or is.
He's not the only player to polarize public opinion like Barry- Ty Cobb comes to mind also. A worthless individual off the field, a gambler, and a cutthroat and arrogant on it. He was a great player, but I would have rooted against him too because of who he was.
