Plenty (with caveats,) fair is fair:
- Bringing the country together after 9/11 (Short-lived, neverthless, he did a good job at consoling the public at large)
- Chasing after the Taliban and Al Queada in Afghanistan (though execution is still on going and effectiveness is debatable)
- Bringing the failing Social Security System into the spotlight (nothing really came of it but it was an issue that needed to be ingrained into the consciousness of the electorate)
- Attempt to lead a practical soloution to immigration reform (like it or not, a call to action is better that doing nothing at all)
- Attempt to fix the school system ( NCLB was poorly executed and poorly funded, but it's a start)
- His Texas Swagger (hey, I'm grasping at straws here:)
- Marrying Laura (She's pretty hot (respectfully) and a class act, regardless of my political affiliation - which is independant)
- Finally engaging Iran in talks over Iraqi security (better late than never)
- Pledging $30B to fight AIDS in Africa (provided that he delivers)
- Acknowledging that going green is a good thing (Better late than never, a for those conservatives who've done a fantastic job at poo pooing GW, check out the news today.)

Great question Wyco:
If you've seen my previous posts, I'm pretty hard on the President and his Administration, but I focus on the policy and not the policy maker.
- Bashing him personally is not fair and unproductive.
- Saying that he didn't do ANYTHING good is not an accurate representation.

That said, frankly his many mistakes (in my opinion) unfortunately are so great and profoundly impactful, it's hard for the lay person to see beyond the muck and give credit (even partial credit,) where is due. This is especially so when he's unable to admit to mistakes which is a sign of a great leader.

So there's my list.

I think that the lowering of taxes did have an effect on turning around a flagging economy. Since that was his primary reason for lowering taxes, I'd call it a good thing in that regard.

However, those tax cuts should have expired by 2004, after the economy was turned around. We obviously CAN have a strong economy with higher taxes: we had that under Clinton. His tax cuts should have been temporary, a shot in the arm for the economy, not long-term care. The prosperity that we enjoy today will spell financial disaster for our children. I don't know how George can look Jenna and Barb in the eye when he talks about the economy.

Maybe he doesn't.

Going after bin Laden at first - good move.
Finally admitting that global warming is primarily caused by humans - good move.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. He's probably done some minor things that I would agree with. All of his major decisions have been bad moves, including the final results of my good examples above. In the first he took the troops away from hunting bin Laden to go to war with a country that posed no threat, and in the second he still refuses to take action to reduce global warming.

I will acknowledge that he doesn't do absolutely everything wrong. Is that what you're looking for?

If I was a democrat, I'd have to say I like the medicare expansion and the, 'no child's behind left alone'.

Both are nice big-government power grabs that the next democrat president could put to good use with a little imagination.

I'm not a democrat but I'll take a stab if you don't mind. He finally got rid of Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense. What I don't understand is why some people still think he's such a great President when most of the country thinks otherwise, including myself. After over thirty five years of voting I can honestly tell you, in my opinion, no President in my life has cause so much damage to our country and its people, and that includes Nixon and Clinton.

Going after the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and Osama bin Laden right after 9/11. That was the only good thing he has done, and he somehow still screwed that up (Bin Laden is still free and the Taliban are rebuilding their influence in Afghanistan/Pakistan)

Getting rid of Rumsfeld, not waiting long after 9-11 to go right after the Taliban, we've seen some small steps economically.

I am not a democrat but certainly no fan of the G man either so I will respond. I think his no child left behind is a start, although it has many, many flaws. I think elimination of the marriage tax penalty was great. Thats about it.

I'll acknowledge the one he'll do on January 20, 2009: Leave.

Other than that, there was going after bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan, and he managed to screw even THAT up. He is worthless, and 70 percent of the country agrees with me.

He's given a lot of $ and aid to help fight AIDS in Africa - other than that I pretty much haven't agreed with anything he's said or done.
