Ants don't care for mint or citrus, cloves or bay leaves, so think orange peel, peppermint tea, lemon juice, ground cloves, etc. If you can plant mint around the foundations of your home, you may deter them from entering. Vinegar has the same acid as citrus, so use it to clean with and ants won't feel welcome. (It probably erases or overpowers the odor trail other ants have left for them to follow.)
Clean bench tops and cupboards down really well, and then wipe down with a clean damp cloth that has a few drops of essential peppermint oil on it, you may need to apply a few drops of oil a couple of times.
Ants hate the smell of it and it is also environmentally friendly, and safe for humans and children, and no residue powders etc to clean up. And the big bonus is that the room smells fresh and minty. I also want to add that you can put the oil on a cotton ball after cleaning and put in the areas you have ants and that should help too...replace once the smell is gone.
I hope this was helpful,Good Luck!!! :)

Two things that I have tried. Both easy. First ants do not like smelly stuff. They hate Talcum Powder. They would rather go round it, than through it.So sprinkle it around, and they will avoid it. The second thing is Semolina. Semolina is a food product. It is a type of grain. Put it into jam-jar lids and leave near nests. Ants love it, take it back to nest, and cannot digest it, so they die.Good Luck!

I'm guessing that the problem is in your yard.
Chop up and boil 3 or 4 onions in a gallon of water. Mash them while cooking/ simmering for a half hour or so. Let it cool and strain it into a milk jug or other container and set it out in the sun for about a week. DO NOT SNIFF THE JUG, IT WILL KNOCK YOU OUT!!!!. Pour around and on ant mounds. I guarantee this will kill the ants.
This is a natural remedy and it will not harm the environment, as far as I know!
This will also wipe out bugs in your cabinets/kitchen when used in a spray bottle, if you can handle a HEAVY onion smell for a few days.
I hope this helps!

Honest to pete, the best anti-ant solution I have ever found is to feed them.
You'll want to follow their trail back to a place outside of your house, where you can interrupt the existing trail. Put a couple of tablespoons of sugar right in the middle of the trail...I have also found that adding a tiny bit of water helps to keep it from blowing away in the wind, and the ants seem to like it slightly damp.
Depending on the number of ants you're looking at, and the size of the pile of sugar, you'll have to replace the sugar every month or two.
I kept my house ant-free for year with this method.

Depending on what type of ants they are. I had wood eating ants. I used a chemical called Spectracide from a local hardware store and in a weeks time I seen to have got rid of my ant problem. I did continue to use the product until it was gone and to make sure no others colonies were hibernating.

First, make certain that you don't leave food out, opened in the pantry(like cereal boxes or pancake mix), or laying around. Put everything in plastic containers that are air tight or baggies. Being overly clean helps a lot. Trust me on this!! Clean regularly!!! Sweep/vacuum/wipe down after every meal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best chemical that I have found that works is the Country Fresh (or something like that) RAID. It's in a Mauve colored can and you can buy it at the grocery store. Spray it around the frames of doors, windows, and other openings like the dryer vent or dormers. Also, use a granule for ant piles that are in your yard. It doesn't kill them entirely... sometimes the piles just move. But if you are consistant then they will move out of your yard. Put the little traps in places like window sills and places that are warm/moist like under sinks.
