Gerald Ford

appointed Vice President when Spiro Agnew resigned
and then became President when Nixon resigned.

Thus far the ONLY President that did not face an
election of any type.

EDIT: To retrotrancer

Ford was the ONLY president that became president
without facing an election, when he ran against Jimmy
"the commie" Carter he was already PRESIDENT

extensive-unfold vote replaced into no longer tabulated in all states previous to 1824. i could wager that George Washington became President without receiving one extensive-unfold vote. EDIT Ford by no potential gained a favourite vote for the place of work of President or vice chairman in 1972, yet served as President from the resignation of Nixon to his loss in 1976.

Gerald Ford - he never have been elected on a national ticket for Vice President or President. He had been elected to Congress from Michigan since dinosaurs roamed the earth, though.

If you exclude all presidents who became president as a result of succession then you are only left with George Washington since no popular election was held for his first term and he was elected by the delegates of the continental congress.

Gerald Ford.

And doggie----you better study your history. George Washington was ELECTED President in the first U.S. election by an overwhelming majority. He got all the electorial votes except one. That guy said later he didn't want to see Washington win unanimously.

Gerald Ford became the only president who was never elected to be president or vice-president. He was the Speaker of the House and became president when the office was vacated by both President Nixon and vice-president Agnew. As you know, he was not re-elected.
