Go traditional and get the 3 buttons on the sleeve. That way, you can wear the suit in any situation. Also, buy a single breasted suit with just 2 buttons in the front. You only keep the top button buttoned up. If you can get a suit without any vents in the back, that will add a little bit of style to go along with your otherwise conservative suit.
If you stick with a dark blue color, then you can really wear the suit any time, any place.

It is only a one button difference. Get over it already. Why is this an issue?
I guess I would say 3 is fine.
