How do you get the backing off of a patch?

I bought a world series patch to put on my Sox jersey and the patch has a plastic back on it...I can't put it on my jersey like that and I am not sure how to get it off. Does anyone know?

are you sure its plastic? it might be the fusable glue you iron the patch on with.

Are you sure that's not the adhesive for ironing the patch on?

I believe thats on there to keep the stitching secure.
patches go through a lot of abuse.
