Evolution is the evolving of living matter into a restructured form that will best survive. Scientifically speaking living things evolve for the continuing existence of their species. Forms of bacteria were the earliest forms of life and we able to adapt to the changing conditions of a diversified , volatile changing earth. They are so diverse that they can be found in or on all parts of the earth's ecosystem. Bacteria are some of the most exotic living things on earth and have been around for millions of years. They are very adaptable and have been found in the most unlikeliest places. They are both harmful and helpful. Our bodies contain many forms of bacteria some good and some bad. This why we have a series of systems to get rid of them before they harm us.

Oh yeah they are successful. Bacteria has been around longer than any other type of organism on earth. They have been able to survive when other creatures have been completely wiped out. They have adapted to live in just about every environment earth has to offer. They continually adapt to new situations to remain successful, such as bacteria becoming resistant to different types of antibiotics.

Of course they are. They are the first organisms we see in the fossil record (~3.5-3.8 billiion years ago +/-), are extremely diverse today, and occur in MANY habitats, including other organisms' guts.
