My suggestions are:
(a) have a profit-sharing scheme based on both individual and company performance;
(b) set-up an employee performance recognition scheme - like "employee of the month";
(c) have a "personal touch" - show you care for their well-being and appreciate their efforts;
(d) have a year-end company trip if you achieve your company's business target;
(e) hold an annual family day where spouses are invited to attend [ recognise the moral support which the employees' spouses have given to your staff];
(f) implement an employee share option scheme for good performers.

Profit Sharing.
There is quite honestly no better motivation than money.
Be sure to treat them right, celebrate the victories when your business wins (captures a big account, breaks a sales goal, etc).
If your employees are extremely important to the success of the business, consider employee ownership- let them work their way into a small part of the business. It worked for Avis.
Just a few ideas, always remember they are people with the same needs and desires as you and me.
Best of luck, and congratulations on starting your own business.
