I've had this problem since i was a kid that i like to steal things just for the thrill of it. in two occasions i've gotten cought & thrown in jail the second time. I regret it so much but i wonder- why did my mom not help me by taking me to a therapist etc when all this started when i was a kid?? Now i'm 24 and i'm over all that and wouldn't steal even a candy from a store for the fear of being thrown in jail. Is there any special therapy or psychologists that could help with this problem?? i really think i had a problem & now thati have a 4 yr old i'm scared that he may inherit my crazy behavior- what should i do or how could i tell if he starts behaving the way i did without thinking he has a psychological problem like i did?? how can i get over this?? i think i'm over it & wouldn't steal again but- how can i teach my son that stealing is wrong when i did it most of my life?? any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a disorder, called 'kleptomania' that is about 'complusive stealing' ... but I seriously doubt that it could be 'passed on' to your son, since it is a 'purely psychological condition.' You can and should 'tell your son that stealing is wrong' ... and that is ALL you should tell him for now ... but when he's older and can 'understand' better, you may tell him about your own 'stealing history' and tell him that is WHY you want him to know 'just how wrong stealing is' ... you'll be fine, and so will your son. YOU KNOW WHAT IS RIGHT, but you are 'just worrying about your son' ... and THAT is 'totally normal behavior' ... so you are a 'good mom' to ask this question.

If you keep close taps on him, like been right in top, when you see the possibility that your behavior can flourish on him, will be good, but you need to be conscious to, and , find out first if kleptomania is in his nature. talking with a psychologies, your self will help you more to be confident that you know how to guide him. my question as a kid, was "Why I can't analyze then, my self too", and if your kid See's or perceived that the psychs has your approval, it can become worst. there is an invasion of privacy, don't show fears of what you did, or remorse as you just did, by asking. Just be truth, and recognize what was right and what was wrong, So, your Son, should have the same chance, and perhaps better, from a good teacher not to do it, but to learn from truth, and motherly concern, don't use fillings. and don't text him in an obvious way.

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with you. Do as you please and stop trying to find disorders with yourself.

Do you really think that there is a neurochemical "imbalance" forcing you to steal against your will ? Do you really think you need to be locked up in a shrink ward ? Do you really think you need to take psychiatric drugs ? Do you really think you need to poison or shock your brains ? Do you really think you need to be stigmatized and bullied by shrinks, the cops and society ?

Come on, you're perfectly healthy, don't let anyone make you think otherwhize. Don't ever doubt yourself.

It's the shrinks who should have their heads examined, for compulsively wanting to find disorders in healthy people.

If you are sick, so is 95% of the people on earth, this simply doesn't make sense.

Kleptomania. Also other disorders could be related including Bipolart disorder, depression or just boredom. If you wouldn't think of stealing now, I wouldn't worry about you. If you see this pattern in your child, bring them to a child therapist.

You little klepto!!! Go see a therapist or resist the urge to steal. Getting caught in front of your child will also do the trick.
