His name was Robert Dickson. You'll find that he was held responsible for preventing US annexation of Canada after the British lost the War of 1812.

Either John McGregor, Louis Riel or Alexander Mackenzie ... all of them were frontiersmen and helped settle the western part of Canada. I'd go with the first or the last names, however.
