As far as girl movies (chick flicks) these two movies I recommend.
The Family Man was really good. It was a romantic movie. Nicolas traveled back in time on this one. It sort of reminded me of the Christmas Carol.
But Raising Arizona was the funniest. He made a great convict, a habitual liar, and a fun drunk.

All of the answers above are very good choices but there is also one simply named "Birdy" . it was before he was very popular but just after he was recognized for his talent in Valley Girl. It is about 2 friends who grew up together and then went off to war(seperately) . Both were wounded in action. But Birdy, the nickname of Nicholas Cage's best friend has gone into a world of his own and has assumed to life of a bird. Cage goes to the hospital where his friend is at in a last ditch effort,thought by the doctor, to bring him back to reality or else he goes to the "looney bin" to be lost in his "bird world" and given up on as a lost hope. Happy watching. Ohhhhhhh there is also one with him and David Caruso(sorry for the mispelling) where he was the leader of a stolen car ring.And caruso is being used by thew Fed's to to get close to Cage ,find out about the operation and then get him BUSTED..................there are some great twists and turns involved from beginning to end................

If you are a true fan, watch Adaptation ad Matchstick Men. They are movies that are deep and can be hard to follow, but they truly show how vast his talent is. They are good examples of his acting range, because its not all car chases and explosions, you have to focus on the acting.

Other than Fast times at Ridgemont High..
I really did not get in to him..
Then I Got a copy of Trapped In Paradise..It was Funny and showed his talents perfect..I have nearly every movie he has made now but this is my favorite one and I have seen it over 100 times. I can watch it every day and not get tired of it.

he's one of my top 5 favorite actors, even though recently his movies have SUCKED! here are his 5 best movies by far, in my humble opinion:
1. Face Off
2. Matchstick Men
3. windtalkers
4. Leaving Las Vegas (for which he won an Oscar)
5. Lord of War (my personal fave)
