No one knows entirely. First, however, it was not the Druids (they were much too late) and as far as we know it wasn't aliens.
Secondly, you must realize that Stonehenge was constructed over a period of 800-1,000 years and therefore it is likely that it was no one group of people. It was a series of generations who changed it from a circle, to poles, to isolated stones, to a real circle of stones more elaborate than the ruins left today.
Interestingly enough, Stone henge, so theories go today, has nothing to do with the summer solstice. Rather, it has to do with the first day of Winter when the sun sets directly behind the altar, the focal point of the monument.

The people who lived in Britain 4 thousand years ago. The stones were erected a thousand years before the Celtic tribes crossed the channel. It was constructed in an area that was already established with wooden henges and ditch circles and mounds.
The Celts had not yet been named so by the Greeks. Druids had not yet be named so by the Romans who had not yet formed the empire.
The communities that built the henge were living in homesteads with agricultural skills and had started clearing large areas of woodland for this purpose.
The idea that it was built by unsophisticated, primative peoples is unrealistic. These are tribes that had organised societies and trade links with distant areas. Though I don't think they went as far as having contact with aliens.

Probably first British.
Stonehenge were build during the neolithic (between 4.000BC to 2000 BC) and since then had a lot of upgrades.
during Bronze age, they brought new Stones and set up new view.
Centuries before Druids and before other recente cultures like Romans and vikings.
Recent studies (no show in the link) relates less workhours to move all these stones. Always using creativity and same old tools.
There are a lot of henges in UK and IR, and Stonehenge is one of most famous.
Recent discoveries point to a communal monument - meeting place of several tribes living in England at that specific period. Commerce, perhaps?

The druids on no account used Stonehenge (no longer the classic ones besides--modern-day ones have because of the fact the 1700's.) It grew to become right into a wreck earlier the celtic druid cult appeared in Britain. In its first section it style of feels to have been a place of the ancestors--2 hundred human beings have been cremated and buried in what we call the aubrey Holes. there grew to become right into a wood shape interior the midsection right now-lifeless bodies might have been positioned out to rot right here. the 1st stones to look have been the smaller bluestones which got here from the prescelli mountains over wales over 2 hundred miles away,in approx 2600 BC. They have been located in an unusual double crescent shape--and then, mysteriously, they have been taken away and trees grew of their holes. approximately 2500 the massive sarsen circle grew to become into all started, employing stones from the marlborough downs 20 mi. away. the bluestones have been decrease back from exile and prepared in a different formation interior the sarsen circle. huge trilithons went up,gradiated in direction of the west. the stones now had a sturdy image voltaic connection. the increasing solar on the summer season solstice might arise beside the heelstone, make a course between the now-fallen Slaughterstone and its now-vanished mate and enter the circle to strike the glittering green sandstone block of the altarstone. on the midwinter solstice, the solar might set between the pillars of the great trilithon, tallest of all the stones, and bathe the altar stone in bloody solar. this might, to historical human beings, have gave the impression of the night of the dying & Rebirth of the twelve months. Midwinter probable grew to become into the extra significant competition, as remnants of extensive historical feasts held right now have been discovered 2 mi away. So a centre of an ancestral cult, a image voltaic temple (with some lunar alignments too) that would functionality as one in each of those calendar, and probably some different issues as nicely in its 1000+ years of use. (case in point, the stones are pronounced to have healing powers too.)

'Built' not build and Stonehenge is one word!
Stonehenge was built by the tribes of the areas in pre History, no one really knows why. It was not built by the Druids as the Druid cult did not exist at that time, they came over here about 1,500 years ago, where Stonehenge was built approx 2-3,000 years ago.

I think it was the Druids of England. Everyone thinks that it had some amazing use, but if you think about it, if someone discovered The London Eye or the Eiffel Tower in a few thousand years, wouldn't they think that those had some amazing uses when they really don't? So it's probably useless.
