Do you think 'just because' is a valid exuse?

Question

Do you think there has to be a reason for everything? Or that we can just choose to do something for no reason? Or that we always just unconsciously rationalize our decisions even when they don't make sense? Any opinion or view on it is welcome.

Okay, maybe there is a reason but we just don't know it.

There is a reason for everything we do, whether we know it or not.
Just because, is such a non-answer that it's almost a lie.
It's basically like saying you are are not worthy of a true answer.

I do believe that sometimes we need a reason - but sometimes not. So, yes it depends for me. I think parents should try and avoid "Just because" - at least for the first time. For example, if a child is young and wants to know why he/she should go to bed, then the parent should tell him the benefits of going to bed then. Children are naturally curious and they have the right to be told why. If the child still asks that question again, then you can say "Just because."

Sometimes we can not explain why we like or do something, and that's okay. But many times we can, but people might be a little lazy to think of why :)

I would disagree. Whether consciously or unconsciously, we always have a reason for doing something. We even things detrimental to our health, for example taking drugs, because those that take them experience an altered state of mind that makes them feel better for a short period of time. If you ask them why they do it they may not have an answer, because what comes to mind are all the downsides to drugs (financial disaster, social problems, relationship problems, addiction, etc), however just as they're taking the drug, they're anticipating, say, a release from stress. Shopaholics (serious shopaholics) do so possibly because they want the best things for themselves even if it means living broke without any hopes for financial success. Battered wives/girlfriends return to their abusive partner because they want to feel loved and don't believe they can recieve that attention anywhere else. Whatever we do, there's always a reason.

Edit: Meg gives a good example. She doesn't know why she does it, but *it makes her feel better*. That's a reason.

i think there is a reason for everything even the things we do when we're watching t.v or sleeping have some purpose and they are done for a reason. so just because isn't a valid excuse there has to be a reason

i think all human beings do things for a reason there's no such thing as just because. For example a man who's married to a gorgeous lawyer that has a mansion in Beverly hills decides to cheat on his wife. Why?? there's reasons 1- he's bored, 2- he wants an adventure, 3- he's geting back at a cheating wife etc etc that's one example. He can't just say he did it "just because"

There doesn't have to be a reason for everything, and even more you don't have to justify your reasons to others. So yes, Just because is a valid answer.

well i think there is a reason for everything. like why did i choose to answer this question well because i thought i could score some points. why's the grass green....chlorolphyll...why do we have a lot of chromosomes the same as bananas? and so on and so on....so there is and answer for everything, we just have to find it.

It has never been up to now and have found no new evidence that it has changed in any way. So my answer would be NO. There is a reason, cause or explanation for everything.

I think that just because is a valid excuse- somethings I have done because I just felt like I had to and I couldn't explain why I did it- but it made me feel better.

To me Just because means you don't want to take the time to explain why or you don't think I am capable of understanding why.
