Part 1 to your question) I would say it wasn't. But then again, you can never have "enough" if you know what I'm saying. The programs I use include the following. Notice how there are 2 or 3 of the different programs with the same purpose. This increases your likeliness to remove/detect a virus.

AVG AntiSpyware
Etrust Ez Armor AntiVirus
Bit Defender-Free Edition
A-Sqared Free
A-Sqaured StartCenter
Ad-Aware SE Personal
Trend Micro- Anti Spyware
Microsoft Malicious Softawre Removal
Spybot Search & Destroy
eTrust Pest Patrol (only "detects" the infection unless you buy)
Windows Defender ...and..
eTrust internet Suite

As much as these are tons and tons of programs (they are @ apprx. 10-20 Mb. each) I unfortunatly STILL don't detect all viruses. Although, I am well-protected. Also, when choosing programs, I highly suggest that you make sure its a known name. Especially with Anti-Spyware products. Those especcialy contain viruses. So, Make sure its a Corp. not some random name, like Super AntiSpyware (which is a program) which i DO NOT reccomend buying/using.

Part B To your Question) Windows Defender Really can't cause much conflict. Again, its just a simple scan. It isn't much of a strong FireWall or anything. But it is still something. I'd reccomend it for simple scans, because, it is From Windows/Microsoft so yeah, It is reccomended. It shouldn't cause any conflicts, but be sure not to rely fully on that one program! Good Luck and hope I helped!!

TIP: When Scanning always use safe mode! (F8 at start-up menu!)

Good Luck Once Again!

I am using all the 3 programs you mentioned and also have AVG Anti Spyware as well as AD-Aware SE. I have used them for more than 6 months now without any problems. In fact I also used to have Kapersky Internet Security 6 for six months too. They have never clashed. .... Only uninstalled Kapersky after the trial period was over and it kept reminding me to get a new license. ... I regret uninstalling it because it provided extra protection. The only snag is I cannot update it anymore after trial period. ... This is my personal experience. By the way your XP must be licensed in order to download and install Windows Defender. WD is an anti spyware program and is very good at detecting changes to your computer settings whenever you install any software. It will prompt for your permission for the changes to take effect. ... Hope this helps.

I've been using the following for over a year and am very, very satisfied with their upfront protection, and there sweeping capability if/when a problem occurs.

I like AVG and Spy Sweeper because they run at boot up and are running at all times.

AVG Antivirus 7.5
Spy Sweeper 5.3.2
Spy Bot 1.4

in the beginning it is not substantial which application you utilize for secure practices, it relies upon on with what you get this viruses. Are you downloading stuff, possibly unlawful?! additionally a competent firewall can help, not the homestead windows firewall. Spybot is extra for destroying and finding undercover agent ware while that's already on your laptop. AVG which one are you having? undercover agent ware or virusprotection? AVG shall we extra often than not the laptop rapidly infacting with the virus. Avira is somewhat distinctive, it in many situations tells you rapidly while an epidemic tries to hack on your device. Avast, restores the virus to the unique report, maximum possibly a acquire.

Hello:

Grisoft (makers of AVG Antivirus) has Antivirus, Antispyware and an Antirootkit program, all for free at:

http://free.grisoft.com

Having more than one antispyware app is a good idea, but you can go overboard on this and end up spending more time worrying and fretting over infections than actually using your PC.

Cheers!
