Sheridan is contracted to the show until 2011. In May 2007, Nicollette Sheridan expressed her desire to leave the show at the end of the third season to leave Hollywood and take up horse farming. In the third season's finale episode, Sheridan's character hanged herself after a tumultuous relationship with Carlos. While the suicide was highly implied, viewers are unsure if Edie actually died from the stunt.

Season 3 Finale-
Carlos confronts Edie at Gabrielle and Victor's wedding. An argument ensues in which Carlos tells Edie he can no longer trust her. Carlos leaves Edie alone and extremley depressed at the wedding and this leads to her going home and she appears to have hanged herself.
Season 4-
The question of whether or not Edie Britt's suicide attempt was successful remains unanswered for now. In season 4, Edie's secret sister, Helen (played by Claire King) comes to Wisteria Lane.

I know this doesn't answer much, but unless she gets out of her contract, she should be back.

Yes she did. The scene showed her feet after she jumped off of a chair to hang herself. The fact that they didnt show her head .. to me... resembles that she might not truly be dead. So don't lose hope! But yes... according to what the scene showed.. edie killed herself in the finale.

We just see her hanging. Carlos may come to get his things and save her. I can't imagine that she will be killed off. But who knows?
