Ok, I'm a junior this year and my cumulative GPA is about 3.2 last time I checked, but I'm about to get a 2.98 GPA this quarter, I'm not in any honors classes. I've done at least 50 hours of community service, I'm in hs band, I'm almost done with my Eagle from boy scouts, I don't play any sports, I'm taking the SAT and ACT and both I know I'll do well on. The college I'm going for is BGSU and I'm wondering if there's any chance I would be able to make it in. I choose it because my mother works there and I would be able to get free tuition.

Depends on a lot of things, do well next year and score well on the SATs and ACTs and you should be able to get into a school. Having your mom teach there will also score you a few points.

I'm not sure about that particular College, because I've never heard of it, but you'll be able to get into most schools. Most State Universities only require between a 2.5 and 3.0 GPA, and maybe a 19 or 20 on the ACT. Not sure about the SAT though. Being in band will definitely help you out, especially if you were in it all throughout High School. Colleges do like to see leadership through clubs and sports, but you may be able to make up for it with band. Good luck!

The good news is that I just looked up the school, and the average GPA they accepted was 3.23, so you weren't too far off, and an average means that they accepted some with higher and some with lower grades than that. Even if you had a less positive quarter this time, one quarter can't drive you down too far (you don't just fall to a 2.98; you need to average those grades in with your others). If you do well on the SAT and ACT, you stand a good chance (there is never a guarantee, but you don't look to be out of the running!).

Well, I know that when I was applying to schools, I think minimum GPA was like 2.5 or 3.0. I think that's pretty typical, although it may be higher for more selective schools. Plus it looks like overall you're a good student. They look at previous classes, activities, etc. too. I don't think you have that much to worry about. Just work really hard to get your grades back up next term.

Also, I got my Girl Scout Gold Award (same as Eagle, but for GS), which was a BIG factor in me not only getting accepted to colleges, but also winning scholarships ($2000 is nothing to sneeze at!). Good luck to you!
