Bush is calling for meetings by the end of 2008 between the US and 14 other major emitters to set targets for reducing greenhouse emissions.

The Bush administration refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol and has been heavily criticized for refusing to actively tackle the problem of greenhouse gases and climate change.

Has Bush suddenly become a global warming convert?

He's trying to maintain his "moral high groun" by suddenly acknowledging the environment, and what's even funnier is that it's done with a.." We'll need to discuss this in great detail" with the G8 summit. sort of ..like, "I've been telling you guys this for a long time" attitude..

Never "denied" it to begin with but some idiots think the man has brought it on and that is 100% BS. This "Global Warming" used to be called the "Tropical Age" and was taught when I was in the 8th grade. It's a natural occurrence and even though man might have brought it on a little faster, it would have happened anyway. Every year the earth moves 1 inch closer to the sun and in hundreds (if not thousands) of years it would become unbearable. BTW, that Washington post thing is know for it's Arab financiers so don't hold them to show you the truth.

PHOTO OP

He is trying to stop the state of California from enacting higher pollution standards then the feds have set up, even though California was given an exemption many years ago to pilot programs that are more stingent than the Federal programs.
Reagan and Bush Sr. BOTH signed on for that
but not Georgie Boy
HE IS THE DECIDER AND HE WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO THINK AND DO

Because he knows that on a political stage he must address the environmental issues before election time. Now that all of his negative news stories have slowed down to every other day, I guess he has the time to do small speeches and photo ops for Global Warming!

It's for the votes - that's how our country works.

He gets on TV and says a few things and all his sheep believe.

Think of it as a bad reality show

Are you complaining? Seems to be a good thing to me.

The Kyoto Protocol was a piece of crap. That was the reason no one (not even Bill Clinton) wanted to sign it. Bush has addressed the issues that Kyoto left out, like the omission of some of the biggest polluters on the planet, China and India.

Dude you are so messed up and misled. The Kyroto protocols were brought home during the Clinton administration, you know the one with the father of the internet and environment was the VP in. Clinton and Gore did not even offer it to Congress because smokestack industries are unionized industries and the unions don't like the idea of cleaning anything. You are so completely and totally duped here its sad. Bush has nothing to gain politically from any of this so I dunno what he is doing, maybe he is doing it because of the climate scares. dunno. I do know that Gore is the most colossal phony on this subject and its sad that he can dupe people this way. He is notorious for taking issues and making them "his" when he is an outlaw on the issue. We will never get anywhere on this so long as people believe as you do, which is believe pre election jargon, slogans and chants. Gore ain't it baby, he ain't even close.

it baffles the mind. did someone reach him finally? not likely. i think it's an outgoing gesture on his part so save face on his presidency. but whatever the reason, at least the issue will be presented on a global level instead of just America. China is really speeding up their air pollution rate with their booming economy. wait a minute....maybe it's a ploy to keep China's economy in check.

I am glad he has flipped flopped on the issue. It probably has something to do with the vast majority of science all coming to the same conclusion. Sometimes facts rule out over idealogy.

It seems prudent to at least err on the side of caution. Don't we do that with the war on terrorism? Why not with global warming?

Congress is no longer controlled by neocons. He is under scrutiny by the Democrats and must do something. Mainstream Republicans are also pressuring him not to make things worse for them than he already has.
