they can't just hop free they are limited in the space of your garden or run. If they are on a lead you can take them outside and over the woods or something you can run alongside the rabbit etc. it is only cruel when the person in control of the lead pulls the lead aggressively etc. Hope this helps :)

It is not cruel unless the owner makes it cruel. Rabbits are not like dogs. You cant train them. When you put a rabbit on a lead and harness its so you can take it for a walk rather than letting it out and it running off. If you have an outdoor rabbit and you live in an open garden a lead is vital if your going to let the rabbit roam free at all.
Owners can make it cruel by pulling on the lead. As long as you dont let young children take the lead you should be ok.
If the rabbit goes somewhere you dont want them to cut off the slack from the lead and slowly approach it so as not to scare it while shortening the lead gradually. Then pick the rabbit of the ground a short amount and place it back down in the direction away from where you want it to go.

I disagree because I put my rabbits on a harness so they can explore the garden without being in danger as I live near a road. If I didn't do this they would just have to go in a run for exercise which limits their freedom. I only think its cruel if a person tries to "walk" the rabbit and not let the rabbit talk them for a walk.

I disagree because i have 2 rabbits and they seem to enjoy going for 'walks'. I let them go where they like and i never ever pull on their lead unless i absolutely have to (eg they try and get through the fence to explore) I never have the harness to tight and make sure that I can fit a finger underneath it. Plus it gives good interactions between you and your rabbit.

Well if I let my rabbit run free he will run away and get eaten by a fisher cat or fox.
If I dont put him on a leash and bring him for walks then he gets to sit in his cage all day or run around my room for a bit.

That's like saying dog leashes are cruel. I guess all dogs should just get to run free, bite people, and run away from their homes and get lost. Just like rabbits.

Your the first person I have ever heard say that bunny leashes were cruel, no offense think as you like but its just safer.

It's not cruel to take your rabbit for a walk on a leash, any more than doing the same with a dog. It keeps your rabbit safe by keeping it near you. I used to take my rabbit for a walk, and he he enjoyed it. He got to see the neighborhood in a safe way. Of course you don't keep your rabbit on the leash all the time.

Considering many are kept in cages or hutches if they are 'pets' then taking them out on a lead is better than never taking them out at all and helps ensure they don't run away as they can easily slip through just about any kind of fence and be gone if taken outside for a breath of fresh air.

A rabbit isn't like a dog, you can't turn it loose and expect it to return when you call its name. Personally, I don't think they are suitable pets but if one is going to keep one as a pet, then a leash/lead seems the only way to allow them outside their cage without fear of losing them.

I disagree. You see, rabbit owners like me put the ones that will comply on a harness so that when I take her out for a hop, she can't make a run for it. You don't "walk" a rabbit. You can't make her go where you want to. I let her down and follow her where ever she wants to go. Never pull on a bunnies leash. Thats mean.
