You know, I think it is getting worse. I was teaching my students how to write a research paper and I told them exactly how to cite their sources and why they needed to cite them. However, I still got several papers with no sources cited and not much personal research done. I even got a couple of papers that were snatched directly from the internet.
I think that the availability of resources is making it easier for people to take shortcuts.
Anyway, all that is to say that they still teach it in school (at least I do), but there are other variables affecting how much research people choose to do today.

I did research in the encyclopedias, way back when I was in school. Now I use the Internet exclusively. Sign of the times, I guess. God bless you.

What do you mean, like, for a paper or something? I thought that was mandatory!? Everyone should research everything- you can never know too much!!!

if they do research then they wouldn't be working in a school in the first place.

It doesn't seem so does it. Everything seems to be copied and pasted.
I think they should have study classes, where they actually teach kids how to study.
