I believe that Toro works on Ticks as well as Ants. Should be at your local hardware store.

Guinea hens. They eat nothing but ticks, as long as there is nothing out there that would like to eat them and can get at them.

put Dawn dish soap in a sprayer that attaches to your hose and spray your yard down.
