Russia has also announced it has built an ICBM that can penetrate any missile defense system. But, how long is Paris Hilton going to jail? It seems to be more important than the demise of this nation.

The Iranian president is saying he is going to blow Israel off the map. But, Anna Nicole's will just came out! That seems to be more important than a nuclear bomb going off in the Middle-East.

The crisis in Darfur is getting less and less media attention. But, Phil Specter is hogging a lot of media attention because he shot a woman...and, as sad as that is, thousands are dying in Darfur and it gets less attention than Phil Specter.

The media is somethin'. isn't it?

I'm happy to find other people who have recognised that media priorities are wrong these days. I agree that there are far more pressing issues than celebrities and their screwed-up lives.

Darfur in particular..... I think the world will look back one day and be profoundly ashamed of how we dealt with this tragedy. Too little, too late....

However folks might disagree with my stance on Russia's missile test. Its a power play, superpowers do this all the time. These days everyone knows that the economic and human cost of nuclear war just isn't going to be worth it.

In our modern language of diplomacy, a weapons test is a way of expressing extreme annoyance. Its also a signal for the parties concerned to plan some meetings where they sit down and chat a bit, till everyone can get up from the table happy again.

Russian is annoyed because of the proposed defense shield the US wants to set up in Central Europe, obstensibly as a line of defense in case Iran gets stupid(er). Russia is concerned because that radar system could also cover everything west of the Urals and that's not cool, from their national security point of view. I think they have a right to be concerned. If the EU and Canada decided to set up a similar system in Alberta, the US President would certainly say "Oh, hell, no!!!" and he would be right.

Russia is feeling very threatened, with all these new military bases popping up around her and all these shiny new armies being kitted out by Western countries. She's not a toothless old cat anymore, like she was under Yeltsin. Putin's Russia is starting to remember her history and the powerful role she once played in the world. Powerful countries don't like other powerful countries in their backyards, playing around with ICBMs and surveillance systems.

I just wish the lot of them (US, EU, Russia, China, etc) would spend less time shouting hollow threats at each other across oceans and more time trying to fix problems like Darfur, climate change, malaria, AIDS, child slavery, corruption, the drug trade...

That's the way it is now days so, get used to it. Did you know that American women pay more for beauty products, almost 8, yes 8 (eight) I want to make that clear, billion dollars a year and, less then half this at last count for cancer research.
We sent a space ship to Mars for what, 9 billion dollars, and we have kids in Appalachia starving, kids on the Indian reservations in the West that have never seen a school, how many latch key kids wandering the streets.

Let's not let this get out of hand. It is sickening though. I'm disabled, over 70 and retired, they changed my Government insurance and now I can't get my heart meds, they're more then I can afford. I worked 47 years, this is what I got.

well, as always, our Medias will feed us nothing but junk news,

u know why, well think of it this way if we the public for some reason become intelligent and resourceful, we will demand the truth the whole truth from our politicians, and government regarding what the hell you guys are doing to us.

guess what they do not want that, because then they will have no other choice to admit to their lies and frauds, and money laundering shames that they have been doing it for as long as
any one can remember.

no the Medias receives their orders from high above, to keep public in darkens and they feed us bunch of junks in order to keep our minds away from the TRUTH.

and most of us will follow those stupid and disgusting news
because most of us have nothing good to do with our liefs.
just like that poppet shows with the strings that they can control the movement of the poppets.

Both Russia and the U.S. have had the ability to destroy the world many times over for more than forty years.

Why are we now any more screwed than before?

This is just Cold War style fear-mongering.

Well, put a mini skirt and heels on the ICBM and maybe the media will notice. If it enters rehab, we'll never hear the end of it.

The news TELLS you whats important, not the things THAT ARE important.
