They are insensitive. They should be cut off at the beginning by telling them that you do not want to discuss the topic as it is closed. If they persist get up and leave.

I have an acquaintance who likes to bring up details and ask questions about an ugly event I had to deal with a few years ago, so I know how annoying it is! If it's someone who I know well enough, I make a playful joke about their nosiness, and usually, they take the hint. If it's someone who I barely know, or a complete stranger who "heard" about my situation, I abruptly change the subject to events in the news, since they like talking about such tragic events so much. If it's possible, I excuse myself, and leave!
I'm sorry you have to deal people's ignorance like this!
Good luck!!

What is wrong with them, you ask? THEY CARE ABOUT YOU!! You are right that they do not understand, but that is the point! When you don't understand, you ask. Question: how many of these people have you explained this to? People can't read your mind. If you don't want them to talk about this, and you are correct that it is your right, then you need to be direct and kindly tell them. Ignoring is passive aggressive and does not help. I'm sorry you experienced a tragedy, but you need to stop taking it out on those around you who likely only want to help. Sounds like you could use some therapy.

I feel you on this one. My husband calls these types "crisis junkies". They apparently cannot live without some crisis happening all the time, and if they do not have a current one of their own, they want to relive yours.
Just tell them "That's long over, I/We don't talk about it anymore". Then immediately change the subject by saying something like "So tell me, how have you been doing?" or "Have you heard about (fill-in-the-blank)".

sensationalism. Sad but some have no lives. The same reason those that drive slow to get a look at car accidents. Drama ensues some.
God Bless & good luck with finding peace within.

You do not need to answer any body's question that you feel you've already answered. Some people want you to give more than what you are willing to give so be blunt and tell them you know what you need to know and leave it at that. Hopefully they will get the hint. Good luck!

Anyone who pushes you for an answer beyond what you've already given is asking for it to explode in their faces.
