Basil keeps bugs away from your pool?

I heard that fresh basil keeps bugs away from your swimming pool. Its that true? Id love to have an natural way to do it. Does anyone know anything about this?

I haven't heard anything about basil, but I do know that marigolds have a natural insect repellant property. We used them to keep gnats away from our front door and it worked beautifully.
