Father Ted is my favourite. I prefer comedy. The comedic timing on that show is sheer brilliance. The characters are great, the acting is great, the story lines and themes are the best. And a comedy about priests that outrageous! How'd they ever get away with it?!
Dr. Who is brilliant as well, especially the new Dr. Who. That is definately of superior quality in all respects. The actors, storylines, cinematography, action, dialogue, relationships between characters, the plots, the ingenuity.
My other current favourite is Life on Mars. It was on for 2 seasons and I loved it, and really got into it when it was on. I was enthralled. I adored the characters. The second and last season has recently ended. They only planned 2 seasons, as it's a 'mini-series'. I am hoping they somehow continue with this show.
Sorry, I can't pick just one, because I like different genres. Sci-Fi, Comedy, and 'Mystery Thriller Detective' Shows.

It would have to be Doctor Who.
Why? Because currently it's the longest running TV show in history, because it's a great sci-fi, fantasy, drama and comedy show. Because it displays not only human but alien feelings so well, because it has a superb cast like Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Sylvester McCoy, Tom Baker and plenty more, and has a great staff with great writers and great filming, with great plots. Because it deals with love and hate, fear and hope, life and death. Because it's so adventurous and dramatic and funny all at once, because they're not afraid to insult or support someone. Because Doctor Who knows how to not go over-board with the sci-fi or fantasy, because they test your limits and make you stop and think. The writers don't make up complete sci-fi gibberish to make the Doctor sound smart, they actually do research for their show. Because it has great running plots that have been going on for years and years! Because it has great villains and heroes. Because it has inside jokes and is great for anybody of ANY age.
And because it's British.

I loved the old show Mr. Ed the talking horse. It was so funny and cute. The best show today that is so superior is the show Bones.

My favorite of all time is the Waltons but I also enjoyed Little House On The Prairie. I watch the re-runs of both any chance I get.

i would say Family Guy...but the way you asked your question made my answer sound like crap..."serious", "Superior to others"...lol but my favorite show is Family Guy i don't watch much TV but i can watch family guy all day oh and that 70s show...what can i say i love comedy, but if i had to make like a really educated guess it would be the discovery channel or the TLC channel...

Gee there are so many but If I had to pick just one ... I'd say " Little House on the Prairie ". Still my favorite after all these years, especially the courtship of Almanzo and Laura.
