A few of the more famous ones :

Mary Anderson patented the windshield wiper in 1905.

Dr. Marie Curie discovered radioactive metals i.e. Radium & Polonium.

Bette Nesmith Graham in 1951 invented Liquid Paper.

Temple Grandin invented livestock handling devices.

Grace Hopper was one of the inventors of the Harvard MARK 1 Computer, invented the first computer "compiler" in 1952, and developed COBOL ("Common Business-Oriented Language"), now the most widely used computer business language in the world.

Stephanie Kwolek invented Kevlar in 1966.

Hedy Lamarr (born Hedwig Kiesler Markey) invented a secret communication system in an effort to help the allies defeat the Germans in World War II. The invention became the base of the technology called "spread spectrum"

Ada Lovelace devised a method of using punchcards to calculate Bernoulli numbers in 1834, becoming the first computer programmer.
