How big is it? How much copper is in it? What is the going rate for copper?
Also consider if it might have a collecter value since you said it is old. Who knows, there are some old train parts that are worth a ton as collecter items but worthless when sold for scrap.

Scrap material is normally classified as either ferrous or nonferrous. The ferrous, or magnetic, materials are steel items, typically worth $.01 to $.04 per pound in today's market. The nonferrous materials include stainless steel, brass, aluminum, and copper. They yield $.10 to $.60 per pound. Aside from the money you can earn for this scrap, you'll also feel good about helping the environment by keeping these items out of our landfills. Good clean copper is at a premium because the Chinese buy it and sell it back to us.

In the U.S. copper scrap is selling for record high prices. People are even dying trying to strip wire from the electrical poles. I have heard it is about $4 a pound.

I weighed mine in about 3 months ago and got £50 for it but it all depends on copper prices at the moment because they fluctuate daily, but you would probably get between £30 & £80 for it.

Quite a lot.
A copper penny is worth 1/2p, and it weighs next to nothing.
There is a shortage of metal in the world at the mo.
God bless China.

Could be worth more as a restoration piece or decorative item than as scrap.

yes it is worth taking off. Right now in my area #2 copper(not clean copper) is worth about 3.30/lb so if it is say 100lbs it would bring 330 bucks.
