Go to www.chemfinder.com. This is a good web site for veiwing stucutres and info on compounds. This site after about 4 searchs asks you to register, do it; its free.
In addition break it apart:
methyl
meth = 1 carbon chain
yl = means it is a branch off of the main chain.
3 = number of the carbon it is attached to
hexene
Hex = 6 carbon chain ( this is my longest contunous chain of carbons)
ene = double bond
1 means the double bond is located in between the first and second carbons

ethyl
eth= 2 carbon chain
yl = branch off the main chain
2 = the ethyl chain is located on the second carbon
pentene
pent = 5 carbons in the main chain
ene = double bond
Was there another number present in the 2-ethyl pentene?

3-Methyl is a CH3 group in the third position, 2-Heptyne is a 7 C chain with a Carbon Carbon triple bond in the two position i.e. if you count down the carbon chain. Hope that is helpful!

methyl means one, so it's an extra CH3 on the 3rd C and hex meanse six so six Cs in a chain with ene giving one double bond between the 1st and 2nd Cs.

ethyl-C2H5 goes on the 2nd C in a 5 C chain with one double bond.

CH2=CH-CH(CH3)-CH2-CH2-CH3

CH2=C(CH2CH3)-CH2-CH2-CH3 (assuming 2-ethyl-1-pentene)

The (CH3) and (CH2CH3) groups hang off the atom that precedes them.

3-methyl-1-hexene is:

CH2=CH2CH(CH3)CH2CH2CH3

2-ethylpentene is:

CH2=CH(CH2CH3)CH2CH2CH3
