Chevy Chase buys the station wagon from the steryotypical Jewish car salesman ...curly hair, big nose, con man, cheap blue leisure suit.

And there is the ghetto scene when he takes the wrong exit off the freeway in St Louis.

Would or could this be made today or would it be viewed as "racist"/ "politically incorect"?

By the way is Chevy Chase a Jew?

Who cares?
If you no likee movie, don't watchee

It is time for the human race to evolve past such petty concerns.
We have been subjected to unreasonable pressure to be politically correct all the time.
The human race is made up of many distinct peoples and cultures. Each has it own unique characteristics. Not all of those characteristics are considered positive. Some of the characteristics are humorous.
As intelligent and evolved beings, we should be able to laugh at ourselves and make light of our differences.
Pointing the finger and shouting "racist" at every opportunity only increases racism. It does not prevent it.

I think they get off in East St. Louis and that is a very rough neighborhood. So no it would not be racist it would be an accurate depecition of a very bad neighborhood with littl to no police presence. Would you have felt better if it was a trailer park instead of East St. Louis? This PC crap makes me want to throw up lunch. Lets not joke about it there are good neighborhoods and bad ones. And what would be funny about a white suburban family getting lost in a nice neighborhood. They are just jokes if you do not like them do not watch . You have an on /off switch on that TV do you not?

Chevy Chase is not his real name and no, he is not Jewish. The car salesman in that scene, Eugene Levy of American Pie fame, is Jewish. I dont know of anything racist about these scenes, and yes, it is an American classic!

i've seen the film quiet a few times, and i never walked away from it , thinking it was racist, it did however indulge in alot of sterotypes, but it was done in a harmless way, i don't know if chevy chase is jewish and i think films of today are made keeping political correctness in mind alot more.

Is it racist... it's comedy.

could it be made today? the made a whole movie to make fun of Greek weddings and named it My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

These are comedy shows and use racial difference in a light manner. Racism implies that what is said or shown is demeaning.
