I received an email from a company who stated that they saw my resume online and are considering me for a position as an office assistant online. We did an interview on instant messenger. I was hired for the position. I am supposed to start tomorrow. I will work 40 hours a week starting at 8 am. I was told that I would be paid $17/hr with a company check once per month so I wouldnt receive a check until 30 days from tomorrow. Is this a scam? They asked for no $ up front. They didnt ask for my social security number either.

Sounds too good to be true? Probably is. You need to fill out a W-4 for for payroll taxes. Try googling them and do research on the company before you start working. Sounds like they wanta months free worth of work out of you. Are you working from home? Have you actually talked to someone live? or just by IM?

Are you kidding me? Why would someone hire based off of instant messanger? I would have to say it is a scam. If I were you, I would have asked for their phone no. and blocked the call and try to see if they would talk to you via phone. Nonetheless, I suggest you do NOT show up, who knows who this person is...You may end up dead

YES! Listen to the answers. Everybody knows that legitimate company's have to play by the rules and if they did not have all your information when they hired you...it isn't legal. BEWARE!! Ask questions of the company personal people.

Yes it is...they are required by law to take your social security number and report to the IRS...most of the time social security numbers are also not asked for until the first day when they are suppose to photo copy your license and your social security card.
