Can they not see that entitlement spending is the true cause of our massive deficits? And I'm pretty sure that entitlements have been around since before 2001.
Reform is needed badly, but nobody cares as long as they have a scape goat.

Uh, Steve C.
1) Clinton did not have a surplus when you consider entitlement liabilities.
2) Tax cuts did not create the deficit. If you would take a few minutes to do research instead of just spouting off you would realize that tax revenues have exploded. Spending caused the deficit.

god of conservativism: "Republicans would rather spend tax payers money on giving tax breaks to the rich and wealthy"
I hope you can see the irony in your own statement. Who do you think pays the taxes in the first place?

It's true that the deficit is technically the result of total spending, not any one program. And, yes, entitlements like Social Security have long eaten up the lion's share of the budget.
Entitlements, though, are more or less predictable - they go up, but they don't go up suddenly. The War was a more sudden expense, at least at first, so it's not entirely unfair to lay some of the deficit on it. It's also not entirely unfair to note that other spending could have been cut (or taxes raised), instead of borrowing increased.

Obviously you have not looked at the budgets for the past couple of years. You are also forgetting something really important: yes, entitlements were around before 2001, but guess what? When Bush came into office we had a SURPLUS. There was NO deficit anymore! So how is the deficit the Democrats fault again?
That said, I agree with you that reform is needed, but this is definitely not a Democrat-specific problem.

You and that i comprehend that Bush could desire to deceive proceed to exist. he's addicted to distorting the fact. He places words in the Democrats' mouth. stupid uninformed republicans will have faith Bush and blindly will parrot what he says. If democrats make wellness advantages, scientific expenditures and different social courses greater inexpensive, so why not strengthen taxes slightly. i'm particular the wealthy of united states of america could have the money for yet another $one hundred strengthen.

Because that is what happens in a one party system!
They should just rename Pennsylvania Avenue to Downing Street II
They each take action that further puts America on the track to slavery!
One crams "War" down our throats and the other gives us "Global Warming "and "Amnesty" for illegals.
They have the same common agenda and goals and have it set up that way - so one does one half of the evil and the so-called other side takes care of the other half.
But in essense, they are one and the same - The Destroyers of America

Uh...we had the same entitlements when Clinton was President and had a surplus. Tax cuts have created the deficit we have now. Same thing happened during Reagan's term....that is why Bush Sr said "no new taxes" and then had to raise taxes.

We could eliminate ALL entitlements and still have a huge deficit.
Yet, we have a military budget which is greater than what the entire rest of the world spends on defense. I think that is the problem, not entitilements.

Republicans would rather spend tax payers money on giving tax breaks to the rich and wealthy, and the War industry. Putting money into social programs is a big waste to conservatives... they say let them pull themselves up by themselves and get rich like we are.

Bush added 4 trillion dollars to our debt. Entitlement spending does not even come remotely close to that.
you cannot cut taxes and increase spending at a level never before seen in this country.

Maybe they won't be "raising the taxes" Bush "lowered" the taxes, so the dems need to put them back where they belong.
I'd rather have a "tax and spend" democrat than a "no tax and spend republican"!
