i have 3 angels in my tank and i just added a peice of drift wood. i soaked the drift wood until it was water logged and then i moved my angel fish from my downstairs tank to the one in my room. The angel fish are fine but they seem kindof in shock. is it because the water is acidic from the wood? if so how can i get rid of it?

thanx

If they've been moved from one tank to another with no aclimatization any fish would suffer a shock however, angels are from the amazon and the pH varies from 4 to 6.5 so they're more likely to become comfortable within that tank.
The wood though should have been left to soak over an extended period i've generally soaked mine for upto 3mths to get as much of the tannins out. While theyre not exactly harmful your tank is likely to look brown for a long time. The tannins are more likely to soften the water than change the pH directly.

But you would be best advised to check the pH regularly.

Angels like a lower pH, but like any fish, fast changes are stressful. Just keep an eye on them. A partial water change may make things worse, so I won't suggest that. pH shock and temperature shock are both stressful.

In the future, do something similar to how we acclimate fish from the store. Put water from the new tank into a container with them a bit at a time.

PS - I would make sure it's not too acidic. Anything below 5 would be cause for concern. 5.5-6.5 sounds perfect.

Do you have a PH test kit? This will tell you the PH balance of the water. PH 7 is neutral below that is acidic and above that is alkaline some fish like acidic and some don't you need to check what PH level that is best suited for the type of fish you have. You can buy PH up and PH down at the Local fish store.

you must buy a pH test set at your fish store. Angels like "soft water" with a PH of 6 or less. Many cities water is up to 8 or more. If the PH balance changes too much too quickly in either direction--the fish will go into Ph shock and can die....test your water ...the little chemical Ph sets are fairly cheap and are accurate.

Any fish moved from one tank into another will be in shock for a few days. for the first 2 days you will also be wasting you time trying to feed them.

They should be o.k. in a couple days.

Keep an eye on them they should not get worse only better. If their condition worsens there are bigger problems.

Hope I helped!

You could get some stuff from the internet or the petstore to help you with you acidity problems.

It might be because of the temp change.
