I feel like the movies take away from how you perceive the characters by reading the books, especially once the films began portraying the characters wearing normal (muggle) clothes on an everyday basis.

what do you think about the characters as they're portrayed in the films:

is hermione too pretty?
is luna too cute to be loony lovegood?
should ron be taller?

Personally, I think hermione's appearance should have remained more consistent with the first movie. Her entrance at the Yule Ball in Book IV should show a vast difference between everyday hermione and sophisticated beautiful hermione. I think this scene in the movie didn't carry much weight b/c she looked just like she had the entire movie, except for a dress.

who did you think would look different/who looked dead on?

I completely agree with what one comment said about Moaning Myrtle. She's aweful and old (she was born in 1965!)...her voice is pretty convincing though.

The Weasly Twins are dead on and I love their personalities- i really think they've developed from the first movie

Filch's character is amazing, david bradley really gets the character.

Emma Thompson is brilliant as Professor Trelawney and Maggie Smith plays McGonagall so well.

I hate new Dumbledoor. The end of the 4th movie, the farewell dinner where he honors Cedric, was nowhere near what I pictured and I don't think he sold it to me. I feel like he's going to die any second.

Fleur is nowhere near pretty enough to be half veela

And cedric was nowhere near hot enough to be cedric. If anything, Krum should have been Cedric and Cedric, Krum. Victor Krum was really good looking and really wasn't supposed to be.

i agree. they should've made emma watson "less attractive" in movies 1-3: slightly buck teeth, bushy frizzy hair. that way at the ball she shrinks her teeth magically and straightens her hair and its dramatic! i havent seen luna, but she's also supposed to be odd looking. OH and KRUM was way too good looking... he's supposed to be kinda weird teenager awkward looking! geez.

i am fine w/ daniel radcliffe and rupert whatever as harry and ron... but yes he should be taller.

i do not like the new dumbledore at all. i think OG dumbledore was good, but i did like LOTR's Gandalf...i imagined dumbledore to be more spry and agile like that, instead of old and mumbly like the DD in movies 1-2. michael gambon was ok in 3, but he RUINED it for me in 4.

the muggle clothes is distracting. the whole point of the school is that they are wearing magical robes and it's different than muggle towns! chris columbus did a good job in 1 and 2 in terms of the "look" of the movies.

i didn't really like professor Lupin nor Sirius...they did not remind me at all of how they were described in the book..but as actors they were fine. strictly speaking i'm comparing the book to the movie....i do not think they detracted from the movie or anything.

i think hagrid is pretty good... professor mcgonagall (sp?)... malfoy is ok... the twins are funny...weird looking but funny... i didn't really like ginny, but again she doesnt' detract from the movie.

oh i didn't like Fleur that much, nor the veela stuff. not all the girls from france were veelas...she was the only one w/ the special power out of all the girls at the school in the book. and walking and swaying w/ butterflies was kinda lame in my opinion. i thought cho was good. cedric good.

i liked young voldemort..he's cute :)

but i did not like the voldemort that came out in 4.. he's supposed to have snaky eyes, no???? instead it was like just the nose, and the eyes were normal human eyes....

is hermione too pretty?

YES...Sorry. Yes. She is. Hermione is supposed to be a nerd, not a Teen Vogue model. Emma Waton's role bothers me constantly. (I mean, come on...)

is luna too cute to be loony lovegood?

I don't think so. My one complaint would be that her hair is too light; the book says dirty blonde and I'm a stickler for random details.

should ron be taller?

Eh. He's fine. Rupert Grint is the only actor out of the trio I like. Radcliffe seems full of himself, Watson is not Hermione.

The only actors I thoroughly approve of are:

--Richard Harris as Dumbledore (first two movies)
--Dame Maggie Smith as McGonagall
--Alan Rickman as Snape
--Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter (fourth movie)

and I'm looking forward to Umbridge.

They completely messed up the Marauders, the young ones and the old ones. I almost cried. And seriously, what's up with Tonks? She's not Tonks. At all.

Lupin looked different to how I thought he was from reading PoA. Needed more grey hair, shabbier clothes...but David Thewlis did get his personality right IMO so that made up for it I guess.

Sirius also missed it totally...WB had a great chance to make Gary Oldman look super-scary yet they held back; why? They had the build up to it bang on but he looked *nothing* like he was described in the book, very frustrating but anyway.

I am also a little disappointed with Dumbledore now...I just always saw him similar to Gandalf in LotR so that could be down to me I suppose.

Apart from that...there isn't a lot more that jumps out for the others really. I felt they got Pettigrew spot on though.

i think the weasley twins was the best. they were just like how i imagined them to be. hermione was too pretty though and she wasn't a total know-it-all like in the book. the filtch in the movie was great too. lupin was fine but sirius was bad but the person who will be playing umbridge in the upcoming film was worse. she doesn't even look like a frog as mentioned in the book. neville and malfoy was great too. the teachers are also good. moody sucked. i wouldn't have known it was moody if it wasn't for the eye. plus the person who played voldemort wasn't scary at all
