Yep, they think that Fred Thompson is the "Daddy" candidate they've been praying for since the current field for them guarantees them a loss in '08. The funny part? Most of them don't have a clue what his stand on the issues are! They just know he's a far right conservative and that's what they are praying for. Never mind that this country isn't about to hand the keys to the hen house to the next conservative fox waiting in line. They'd have a better chance with Giuliani, at least he'd garner SOME votes from the Independents. I hope they do run Thompson, it'll cement most of the Independents voting for the Democratic nominee. They really don't seem to have a clue about the pulse or mood of the majority of the American people right now when it comes to Republicans - especially a far right candidate like Thompson. It'll be fun to watch if nothing else.

I am not so sure, the conservatives I know are rooting for Hillary, there are just too many people that hate her. It is too early to tell, alot of things can happen in the next 17 months.

To respond to a couple comments below me.

First about not pulling independent votes over. First off only about 1% of the nation is registered independent, so that isn't a large number, although in a close race it could be a factor, but 50.8% of the US is registered republican and 48.1 is registered democrat. While this doesn't mean people will vote along party lines, theoretically if ieverone voted for who they were registered with, and all the independents voted democratic, the republican will still win. That is why you hear the same 2 things every election.
1-The republicans need to get their base out to win.
2-The democrats need get the fence sitting republicans to vote democratic, particularly married women with children, who about 58-42 vote republican wile being 50-50 before kids and about 43-57 democratic before being married. Those voters once voted democratic, so they are the easiet to move back.

To the person who said that the republicans don't need more actors, I assume you are referring to, Reagan(a president who won in 2 huge landlsides), and Scharzenegger(who can win in democratic California). Fred Thompson was a prosecutor first, he was assitant council investigating Nixon. He was a senator BEFORE he was on Law & Order. Whether he will win the nominaton, and beat a democrat remains to be seen, but he has name recognition, and a lot of buzz. People are talking about him and he isn't even in the election yet. You can't say that about anyone else, even Gore.

with the aid of fact i became into residing in TN on the time Thompson "turn flopped" approximately reelection ( which he could have won somewhat), i could desire to make sparkling that. he's a sturdy believer in term limits and due to that he had desperate to not run previous 2 words. while 9-11 occurred the president and a lot of others asked him to run returned to maintain stability in Congress. initially he agreed, yet then his daughter unexpectedly previous away, and his family members grew to grow to be the concern. He did vote with McCain in the finance reform, and that's one shot against him, yet I comprehend his reasoning whether i don't agree. he's a by potential of the e book Conservative while it involves abortion, weapons, taxes, spending, and is a strict constitutionalists, federalist, an avid supporter of state's rights as set up in the 10th replace. He has a commanding presence, good talking voice, and an astonishing vote casting checklist. many of the particular interest communities and lobbyist do unlike him, which I evaluate a good element. pondering he's monitoring 4th in a number of the polls and is not even working is a sturdy sign that human beings do care if he runs.

No, Mitt Romney was the best they could come up with. Fred Thompson's just popping up out of left field. (Rudy's not really conservative, and McCain crossed the line with the Amnesty Bill).

Fred Thompson. Another "B" Actor. Great.

Why do Republicans have a problem with real people?

And aren't they the ones who've been SCREAMING for months and months about "keeping Hollywood out of politics?"

Lordie, Lordie. Is there ANY issue they aren't hypocritical about?
