I live in Wisconsin and have found a wonderful property that I would like to purchase, but the house on the land is 120 years old and crap. How much would it cost to tear down, getting rid of the rubbage, etc.... Would like ideas if it would be cheaper to tear down and start from scratch or to re-model.

Depending on WHERE you live in Wisconsin, you might try contacting your local fire department. Some of the volunteer fire departments actually will torch this old house, as a method of practice for their jobs. Just a few weeks ago, I saw an outdated restaurant go up in flames for exactly this purpose. You will still, of course, have to have the remaining unburned items removed and the foundation bulldozed, but this will be considerably less expensive than a conventional tear down.

Without knowing in what condition this old house is, it's impossible to venture a guess as to whether or not you are better off to remodel or destroy.

talk to the city or county you belong to. They may have better programs for replacing properties than to demolish and build and new one.
In any case you should be able to get a quote around 10000 dollars unless the house is huge or two story

Depends on how large the house is. Carting it away costs more than anything else. 10k - 20k would be my guess. Check with fire officials, maybe you can burn it down.

Why would you want to tear down such history? Always worth fixing up a house like that...

You need to get ahold of an inspector and also a builder. My fiance is a builder in Wisconsin. He is also partner in his fathers architecture firm in Milwaukee. He could most likely answer your question since he lives in your state.

Please contact me if you'd like me to give him your info or vice versa!
