there 6 months old, i play with them alot. there friendly. but never want to bask on the floating log when i am around but when i leave the room i always come back to them basking on the log but as soon as they see me they dive back in?
why???

Dress in camo and put a plant on your head. They will think you are a bush floating by.

Friendly? They know you bring food, but otherwise you are a giant, scary, noisy monster to them.

Turtles are not good 'play with' pets- it stresses them badly. Just make sure they have a good home, and let them have a good time.

It's an instinctive reaction. Instinct tells them that when something is near, dive in the water. You can't fight instinct.

It probably just startles them when you come in. I wouldn't worry about it.
