OK , the Government takes a huge tax hike on a gallon of petrol but these cartels are truely taking the p*ss. Whilst the cost per barrel of oil is going down , the prices at the pumps have sky-rocketed , it makes no sense at all to the logical & sensible person , but hey! , who are we?. They always come away with some crap about the votility of the middle east. I know the truth , this island (Britian) is known as "Treasure Island" to these global companies because we are not known to complain and just 'accept' things. This malaise comes from past generations who did as they were told without complaint ..

Currently, refineries are the problem, not OPEC (opposite from 2005).

Do you blame OPEC or the Oil companies? If it's the latter, then you've got it right on the button. When the wholesale price of crude is low, yet the price at the pumps is high, only idiots would start whining about the Middle East.

Get this straight. The only people who are raking in the cash are the oil refiners, not the oil producers who are lowering their prices - It's the guys who convert crude oil into gasoline and other products who are overcharging. Who are they? The vast majority of all the oil refineries in the world are built, owned, and maintained by the American and to a small extent, European companies. Oil companies, who delight in hearing ignorant people blame the Arabs and volatility in the Middle East for rising prices at the pumps.

The same story is heard in the US, as well as the UK. - We may pay more duty on petrol, but there has been a significant rise in prices throughout the world. That's what happens when you get an oil man as the most powerful president in the world. The rate of production is controlled, the wholesale prices are lowered, yet we still pay more at the pumps to benefit his friends and family.

I am wondering the same thing you do. I think they are collaborating to get the price hike for the maximum profits they can take because of the monopolistic nature of the oil. I just can't wait until the days the motor company comes out with the Hydrogen power engine that can be used economically. They the oil will be outdated and all those middle-east countries can start eating sand!

From what I hear in the states I constantly see the price of oil go up, not by much but it still goes up...I'm still waiting for the price to even out. I could only imagine what Brits have to pay.

Move to US. Gas tax is lower, so we pay almost half of what you do. And gas taxes are in cents per gallon, not % of price like in UK.

Gas prices always increase in summer b/c people drive more (for weekends and vacation)
