If the machine has been recently jostled, you may have a loose connection. Or, a bad connection.

Worst of all, you may have a fried board.

If you know a reliable tech, have him/her check it out. This sort of problem can be difficult to diagnose without opening the case and rooting around.

Simplest fix might simply be downloading the latest USB drivers and the Plug & Play software. Your latest update may have also disabled the ports.

Since you have already reinstalled your chipset drivers and still no usb then the problem may be your hardware (mainboard). Emachines blow chunks anyway. You can try to reinstall your OS because it could be a minor registry problem. One that would take a registry pro to realize. Good Luck.

something you can do to maybe fix it is....
go to start, settings, control panel, system, hardwaretab, device manager, and in the device manager at the bottom of the list of hardware there will be a area called "universal serial bus controllers" click on it then it will expand into a bunch of usb root hubs and other crap, right click on each of the usb root hubs and uninstall then reboot. windows should automatically recognize and reinstall the usb hubs and hopefully they will work fine.
