I have a 1994 chevy cavalier 2.2 automatic and about two weeks ago...my axel popped out of the tranny. I was able to buy and replace the part but that one popped out too so now I have to buy another one. I wouldnt have to replace them if the boot that holds the lube wouldnt keep getting shredded. The first time it broke loose it banged around everywhere and busted a huge hole in the transmission side pan. At least that didnt happen this time because it happened pulling out of the driveway as opposed to the first time when I was going down the street. Anyone have any suggestions on how to permantly fix this problem. Or does anyone know of a pdf repair guide for this particular problem. I am a know nothing about cars.

Thanks

Either your front suspension is waaaaaaaaay out of alignment, or you've got a bad engine/tranny mount. If the mounts are bad, the engine/trans assembly can move in the cradle enough to pull out the shaft. Also: make sure the shaft was in all the way to begin with.
My money's on the mounts, tho.

The axles should obviously not be able to pop out of the tranny. There is an expandable clip that hitches to the carrier inside the trans. on the end of the tripot joint stub shaft. The way to get them out is to whack them or a quick pry to get them to come out. If the axle pops out on its own, the clip is either missing or damaged or the carrier inside the trans is damaged. It sounds like there is some pretty big damage here. If you are unsure, take the part into a mechanic and let him look at it to be sure. Good luck.

Dude, I am not trying to be a wiseguy here, but the Cavalier is a really unreliable car, and the only way to solve your problems is to sell it and buy something decent, like a Honda Toyota, or Mazda. Otherwise, you're just throwing good money after bad.
