If it hurts when you breathe in and out then you probably popped a rib head out of place. Muscles don't usually hurt when you are not using them so pain while sitting isn't really a muscle thing sounds more like a joint thing. If you put heat on it make sure its moist heat and not a heating pad. Dry Heat pulls moisture out of the soft tissue and makes it stiffen up after its removed. Moist heat like a hot wet towel, shower, hot tub makes the heat penatrate into soft tissue. Since you are pregnant I would recommend the hot towel. See a chiropractor. He can get that pain to go away and yes it is safe for pregnant women.

Without doing any therapy or treatment it will take more time for the pain to dissolve. First off place a heating pad on the area for twenty minutes several times a day. This should start relaxing the spasm.

a good massage would take down the pain very quickly. You could ask your doctor for recommendation of a physical therapist who does massage therapy.

It actually sounds like you have a pinched nerve. Not too much you can do while pregnant but moist heat and tylenol. check with your md for sure.
