Jordan simply due to the fact he was a genuine leader that controlled the floor and directed his troops to victory 6 wonderful times.

I love Jordan, and he is a great player.
However, on purely skill and talent level, Kobe is a better offensive player, he has a better shot and is better making hard baskets. On this basis, I would argue Kobe, of course I'm not taking into consideration how he functions within a team unit. In that case, Jordan, because he makes his team play better. I don't think it's fair to measure it by the number of championship rings, because it's quite obvious that Jordan doesn't "carry" a no show team, case and point; Jordan on the Wizards (Tyronne Lue and Jihadi White?). If we look at the lineups we see that Jordan's team was quite stacked and Kobe's is quite hurting, I don't believe that any one player can "carry" a team to the championships, let's look at the lineups (I'll be taking from the 1998 lineup, the Bulls' last championship)
PG- Ron Harper
SG- Michael Jordan
SF- Scottie Pippen
PF- Dennis Rodman
C- Luc Longley
Lakers (current)
PG- Smush Parker
SG- Kobe Bryant
SF- Luke Walton
PF- Lamar Odom
C- Kwame Brown
I'm sorry to say it, but the talent differentiation is just huge. Odom would get rocked by Rodman on defense and on the boards, Walton will get worked by Pippen, Chicago had a strong lineup and it can't be denied. If you switch around to previous years the we would be switching in players like Horace Grant. So I don't really think that you can make an accurate comparision based on rings alone, I mean Robert Horry has like what 6 or 7? Does that mean he carries whatever team he's on to the finals? He's a good clutch player, but I don't think he'd be considered "among the best". There is no one player that carries teams, I will retract this statement if the Cavs win the finals this year.
Back to the question, skill-wise Kobe, overall player (e.g. attitude, team involvement, leadership) Jordan.
Hafeman, true, Kobe lost with Malone and Payton, I'm not going to deny it, but I'm going to blame team chemistry more than anything else on that one. Detroit played better as a team, Lakers did not, which reiterates my point one person doesn't win championships.

Michael Jordan brought the whole game of basket ball to another level. Kobe is only mimicking a small degree of what Michael Jordan did on the basket ball court. I dont think anyone will ever revolutionize the game the way Michael has. He brought a flair and a style that was his own. Jordan will be the basis for what greatness is measured in the NBA. Micheal Jordan is hands down the greatest basket ball player ever.

Michael Jordan hands down. I dont watch a lot of basketball anymore but when Jordan played I caught almost every game. Kobe seems to be all attitude and a little talent. Jordan maintained a great reputation, won championships and MVP's and was actually fun to watch playing. I can't say Kobe can or will do all that.

Why do we always have to compare? Jordan was great and Kobe is great !!! We have all enjoyed watching these guy's just dominate the game of Basketball !!! They truly love the game and they will do anything to win !!! No 2 individuals are the same !!! I'm just happy that we had a Jordan and then when he stepped down we now have a Kobe to enjoy !!! To sum it up they are 2 of the greatest players to ever play the game.

As it stands right now, Jordan was better but Kobe is right there behind him and has a chance to pass him. Jordan didn't become a true legend until his early to mid-30's (he was 28 when he won his first championship). Kobe is 28 right now. If he continues to refine his game as Jordan did, he may be able to surpass him.

I suppose you have been prompted to ask this question by the prodding of Jemele Hill(sp?). Her argument is that Kobe is the better player; in terms of pure talent and court domination.
This argument cannot be taken seriously. Yes Kobe has 3 rings, and yes he may win more, but during his championships Kobe was not the best player in the league...hell he wasn't even the best player on his TEAM. Shaq won those titles, and Kobe was his Pippen.
Kobe needs to show me that he can win a title as the best player on his team before I even begin to say he resembles Jordan.

jordan is without a doubt. just look at both of their career stats... and it will be clear that he is much better than kobe. plus jordan has six rings... wherein he led his team to six titles - not like robert horry who just got lucky and was on 6 title teams riding the coat tails of better players.
but i will say kobe is a great player... no one can deny that. i agree with guy above me too. kobe does stand a chance to be better if he keeps improving his game.
