A breed of dog. Originated in Germany, but was adopted by the French soon after. The standard poodle (over 15 inches at the shoulder) was the original size. From the standards came the miniatures (between 11 and 15 inches) and finally the toys (10 inches and below). They are highly intelligent dogs who require plenty of mental stimulation and company not to mention plenty of grooming. They have a non-moulting coat with no dander and are thus popular with allergy sufferers as they tend not to trigger most pet allergies.
