A Clockwork Orange is a psychological thriller. If you are going along that theme, then Raising Cain (1992) Dead Ringers (1988) or Se7en (1995). Intense, twisted and disturbing.

If you want straight fright with little in the intelligence arena,
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Near Dark (1987)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1973)
The Exorcist (1973)

I know these are old school, but there was something about scary movies from the 70's and 80's that were more interesting and more frightening and less focused on rapid flashes that inspire headaches.

The Grudge was one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen. I can't even look at the dvd case without getting goosebumps.
Other than that, I wanted to give you a heads up for a new scary movie I saw the trailer for. John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are in it and it looks really good. It's called "1408"

Really a lot of top contenders out there. Ranking depends on the genre e.g. Thriller, Witchcraft, Sorcery, Dark Horror, Supernatural, SciFi, Creatures etc.

I'd say Evil Dead, Poltergeist, Exorcist, Species and Omen all rank equal. By my yardstick, of course.

Im going to agree with The Decent. I jumped a couple times and I NEVER do that. Im a huge horror fan and it takes alot to scare me!

High Tension was really gory and strange but kinda good.

Texas Chainsaw (The new one) was gory too but very entertaining!!! It tells you how they became so it was a great story!

Hostel (The ending) of course was really good and FREAKY!! I couldnt imagine this really going on in the world.

The Descent---

this movie kept me on the edge of my seat BEFORE the real terror started, but when it did start I jumped out of my seat and so did half the audience. The Descent offers a truly frightening horror movie, and it quite gory as well.

i have a few i could watch over and over. "Wrong Turn", "Predator", "Tremors", the new movie "vacancy", "Signs", "jeepers creepers" , "wolf creek" and "the skeleton key". my favorite is John Carpenter's "The Thing."

the sickest movie i've ever seen is zombie holocaust but i would never recomend to anyone. it's just for information only.
